Metro track system
We provide solutions for specific local needs, with a particular focus on vibration reduction and on guaranteeing high comfort standards for passengers.
In this context, WEGH stands out as a leader in the design, installation and maintenance of metro track systems, in urban and suburban contexts.

Arianna® M-Slab System
Since the early 1980s, the Arianna® M-Slab system has also been increasing adoption and diffusion in the metropolitan area. The first installations on the Lodi-Corvetto section of Milan and the latest on Metro Catania have demonstrated its effectiveness and reliability over more than 40 years of operation. Today, the Arianna® M-Slab system is considered a reference standard in Italy and abroad, where it has been adopted by various infrastructure operators to improve efficiency and sustainability of railway networks
This system has been designed to reduce maintenance costs, thus addressing one of the main challenges in railway infrastructure, as well as guaranteeing short installation times, enabling rapid implementation of the system on new lines or when modernising existing ones.
Mass System
The Mass System is characterised by a precast concrete slab resting on four discrete elastomeric bearings. This configuration, combined with the considerable mass, in fundamental in guaranteeing the system’s exceptional anti-vibration behaviour.
Each plate has three recesses on the upper side, designed to accommodate sleepers made of African “azobé” wood, known for its exceptional hardness and strength. The sleepers are protected by elastomeric panels, thus contributing to the reduction of vibrations.
The system has been carefully designed and implemented with the primary objective of minimising vibrations while maintaining excellent track geometry and ensuring high comfort and safety standards. It has been widely adopted in Milan metro lines, proving its effectiveness and reliability in a demanding urban environment.

Floating Mass System
To ensure effective vibration dumping, WEGH has developed the Floating Mass System, a reinforcement system that combines prestressed concrete sleepers, fastenings and reinforced concrete on elastomeric mat with specific elastic properties. It has been designed with a thickness and characteristics of the base mat to suit every vibration control requirement. Its flexibility allows smooth integration into tracks with switches and communications, thanks to the use of specially designed WEGH sleepers.
It is an excellent choice for reducing vibrations, making it particularly suitable for sections located near historical monuments, densely populated areas, buildings of architectural or artistic value, hospitals and historical centres. This type of track system consists of prefabricated sleepers immersed in a reinforced concrete base made on site, all placed on an elastomeric mat that acts as a mass-spring, guaranteeing a high reduction in vibrations and a greater protection for surrounding structures.
Bottom-Up System
In the Bottom-Up methodology, one starts with the pouring of the foundation and then proceeds with the assembly of the rails and fastenings.
This approach is very beneficial in contexts where the available space in height or width is limited, such as on viaducts. Installation can be carried out using continuous foundation castings or discrete concrete elements. By adding a mattress underneath the concrete pouring, a medium level of vibration containment can be achieved, contributing to optimal comfort for users.
Top-Down System
In the Top-Down methodology, we start with the anchoring of the rails and fastenings, and then proceed with the paving.
This flexible approach allows the laying strategy to be adapted to the specific needs of the project, ensuring greater efficiency and better management of available economic resources.
This approach, like the Bottom-Up system, is also very beneficial in contexts where the available space in height or width is limited, such as on viaducts.
Laying can be performed by means of continuous foundation castings or discrete concrete elements. With the addition of a mattress underneath the poured concrete, a medium containment of vibrations can be achieved, thus contributing to optimal user comfort.
We support and collaborate with the client to choose the most suitable track system.
WEGH Group is one of the few companies in the world able to offer the customer all the necessary skills to carry out all phases of track system construction: design, production, installation and maintenance. And for each phase, we have the experience to provide assistance for the proper execution of the work on schedule.
